Music Video Auteur-CANADA

What is a Music Video Auteur

A music video auteur is someone that is in full control of the direction of a music video and how they can add there creativity and technique and style to the music video. Most music videos by auteurs stand out because of this style and technique.

CANADA

As i researched into different music video auteurs i came across a group of directors called CANADA. CANADA are a group of film artists with an old aesthetic approach to there creativity using a lot of digital work and colourful editing. The three filmmakers from barcelona have directed music videos such as "Ice Cream" for Battles and "New Lands" for Justice. The creative edge in there music videos really add a unique aspect and allow it to stand out against stereotypical music videos.

Music Video Analysis "Gangnam Style"

"Gangnam Style" by PSY follows most of the categories for a successful music video and is very different to the other music videos I have analysed. There is a very large wow factor within this video that links with the performance and artist identity, this is the very iconic dance that allowed the video to become the most viewed video of all time on YouTube. Because of this it allowed the video to become part of pop culture and gain a large fan base and is evidence of a reaction. The cuts and editing show the non-linear editing used. This is the most viewed music video of all time and no wonder why, after following all these tick boxes it has maintained an extremely large audience and became a worldwide trend.

Music Video Analysis "Small Bump"

The second music video I have chosen to analyse and give my opinion on is "Small Bump" by ed sheeran.

Again I feel that this music video uses very simple editing to give a very emotional effect on the viewer. This video clearly shows artist identity and how the emotional effect of a music video can add a wow factor and get a strong reaction from the viewer. Personally I wouldn't consider this music video by no means visually pleasing but this shows how a simple video can still have a very strong effect on the viewer. I feel that the slow editing and takes help set a scene and help add to the artist identity.

Music Video Analysis "Lost and Not Found"

The music video that I've chosen to analyse is "Lost and Not Found" by Chase and Status.

The slow pacing and constant panning of the camera throughout the music video give an emotional and intriguing effect on the audience. The music video goes through different scenarios and scenes all in one location. This is a more unique and interesting music video in my opinion and I feel that it really uses the visually pleasing aspects such as the slow motion effect and constant pan to get the audiences attention. This also adds curiosity to the music video and allows the viewer to suggest what is going to come next and what will happen in the end. I also think that this music video shows pragmatic meaning and how the video doesn't have to show all the features of a stereotypical music video and can still maintain an audience with them taking interest.

Media A2 Introduction

Hello and welcome to my A2 Media Blog

Following last years AS level we again have to keep a blog to show valid research and planning for when we have to create our music videos.

In this A2 course we are creating our very own music video. I feel that this will be a very interesting and fun topic this year. Also I feel that I will be going out of my comfort zone this year, which isn't always a bad thing. I have a large variety of music that I listen to and feel that this will help when it comes to finding a suitable song for my video. I am not to confident after AS with media but this year I am more motivated and organised and feel ready for A2. I feel that working in groups is really going to help work finished as we are able to work closer together to create a better music magazine and find suitable research and planning.
